STORYBOOK – I LOVED GRANDPA
When my children lost their grandpa, it is important to address their sadness and help them put their feelings into words; helping my children grieve was not easy because I was dealing with my own grief, I knew that they needed help, understanding and love.
My children all experienced their loss slightly differently based on their varying developmental abilities.
Grieving is a process and will take time, there will be ups and downs, but talk, listen, engage and love your child through their sadness and focus on the great times their loved one shared with them.
When children lose a loved one they need to understand how to deal with the loss. It is ok for children to be sad, but we also have to help them understand how to remember the good times and how it is ok to smile and laugh with each memory.
That’s why I sat down and wrote this story, in the hope it will help other families.
